The USA Under-18 Basketball team, featuring UNC 2022 signee Seth Trimble and 2023 commit G.G. Jackson, won the gold medal at the FIBA Americas Championship in Tijuana, Mexico last weekend. Team USA blazed through the group stage and tournament bracket of the event, going undefeated and throttling Brazil, 102-60, in the gold medal game.
Jackson, ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit in his class, played in the first two of Team USA’s six games in the event, but did not suit up in the last four due to a coach’s decision. He certainly raised eyebrows with his earlier performances, though, scoring 20 points in 17 minutes in a group stage game against Ecuador. Jackson shot 8-10 from the field, and Team USA won 123-41.
Trimble played in every game of the event, with his best performance coming in the semifinals against Argentina. Trimble scored 16 points in a 98-60 win. He also showed off his stat-stuffing abilities in a group stage game against the Dominican Republic, when he scored 11 points, dished out five assists and nabbed five steals. Trimble, the No. 28 player in his class according to 247 Sports, is the younger brother of former UNC player J.P. Tokoto.
According to Inside Carolina, Trimble will join his incoming freshman class teammates in Chapel Hill later this week to begin summer classes.
