President Joe Biden announced he is appointing 14 individuals to serve on the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts. Diane Robertson, a Carrboro resident, is one of the appointees.
Robertson is an award-documentary film producer and is a voting rights activist. She serves on boards for the North Carolina Humanities Council, Playmakers Repertory Company, East Coast Greenways, Planned Parenthood South Atlantic and the NAACP.
Robertson also serves on boards for Democracy North Carolina and the Southern Documentary Fund and was Director of Development for the American Dance Festival.
The President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts (PACA) was established in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The committee advises the executive branch on ways policies and legislations can support the arts. Members also help guide the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
“The Center considers PACA appointees to be ‘Ambassadors for the Arts,”’ a White House release said. “Acting as a national network for the Center, the PACA helps to broaden the Center’s influence and extend its vision across the country. The Committee serves as a national forum, giving its members the opportunity to share with the Kennedy Center their views on the Center’s artistic programming.”
Robertson is the only appointee from North Carolina. Other appointees include the first Director of Cultural Affairs for New York City, board members of major U.S. museums and an artist about to exhibit her first solo show.
