Welcome to Safety Tip Tuesday on 97.9 The Hill! Every Tuesday, we present some helpful hints and useful reminders that help you stay safe no matter the situation in a recurring series of conversations with local family safety organizations presented by Safe Kids of Orange & Chatham counties, along with Pam Herndon State Farm.

This month, join 97.9 The Hill’s Brighton McConnell for a conversation with Carol Dannenhofer and Kelly Hoskins concerning alcohol abuse, adolescence, and the effect intoxicants can have on a developing brain. Neurological development continues in humans past the teenage years, and consumption of alcohol and other substances have been shown to have substantial — and substantial negative — effects.

Listen below for the full conversation, from scientific studies all the way to local initiatives working to curb alcohol abuse in our community, with a focus on younger populations.

Safe Kids of Orange County and Safe Kids of Chatham County are both led by UNC Health Care Trauma Program, which provides dedicated and caring staff, operation support and other resources to assist in achieving our common goal: keeping your kids safe. Based on the needs of the community, this coalition implements evidence-based programs, such as car-seat checkups, safety workshops and sports clinics, that help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.
