Former UNC women’s basketball star Allisha Gray was one of four players selected Wednesday to represent the United States in the inaugural 3×3 Olympic competition this summer in Tokyo.

Gray — now a member of the WNBA’s Dallas Wings — is joined on the U.S. roster by Stefanie Dolson (Chicago Sky), Kelsey Plum (Las Vegas Aces) and Katie Lou Samuelson (Seattle Storm).

The 3×3 games will take place with one basket in a half-court setting and a 12-second shot clock. All teams will have just one substitute and the first team to score 21 points or the highest score after 10 minutes is declared the winner.

After spending her first two seasons at UNC during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 campaigns — earning First Team All-ACC status as a sophomore in 2015 — Gray was part of a mass exodus from the women’s basketball program under former head coach Sylvia Hatchell. According to the Daily Tar Heel, she cited the school’s academic scandal and the fear of her name being tarnished as the reason for leaving.

The 6-foot wing sat out the 2015-16 season after transferring to South Carolina, then helped guide the Gamecocks to the 2017 NCAA championship.

Instead of playing out her final year of collegiate eligibility, Gray opted to enter the 2017 WNBA Draft — where she was selected by the Wings with the No. 4 overall pick in the first round.

She went on to become the 2017 WNBA Rookie of the Year and has since gone on to average 11.3 points per game over her four years in Dallas.
