Fresh off winning yet another national championship, the Alabama football program is undergoing another staff shake-up — with reports Sunday indicating the Crimson Tide will hire UNC running backs coach Robert Gillespie to the same position.

Gillespie will take over for Charles Huff, who left Alabama to become the head coach at Marshall. Under Gillespie’s leadership at UNC, running backs Michael Carter and Javonte Williams both became All-Americans and produced one of the most productive seasons in history with their ground attack. The pair are now among the top NFL running back prospects for the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.

According to FootballScoop.com, UNC head coach Mack Brown is expected to bring back Larry Porter as the Tar Heel running backs coach — although other candidates are being interviewed.

Porter coached at UNC under former head coach Larry Fedora from 2014-16, joining the Tar Heels after working under Brown at Texas in 2013. He left UNC to coach both tight ends and running backs at Auburn.
