A popular Hillsborough business is temporarily shutting its doors and postponing an event due to a positive COVID-19 case.

The Hot Tin Roof bar on West Margaret Lane shared a message with the community on Tuesday saying a member of their team was exposed to someone who recently tested positive for the coronavirus.

“The safety of our staff and patrons is of the utmost importance to us,” wrote the private club’s owners on its Facebook page. “Per Health Department guidance, we will close Hot Tin Roof until each member of our team can be tested and cleared to return to work. We will miss you all over the next few days, and will keep you posted about reopen plans!”

The temporarily closing of Hot Tin Roof means a upcoming private event with musician Mason Lovette will be postponed from Wednesday. According to the bar, the event will be rescheduled for mid-December and those who purchased tickets will still be able to attend.

The instance comes as the rate of positive coronavirus cases rise across North Carolina. While Orange County is currently deemed by the state Department of Health and Human Services as only experiencing “significant” community spread, more counties have now been deemed to have “critical” spread than the previous week. State health experts and Governor Roy Cooper urged North Carolinians this week to remain vigilant in wearing face coverings when in public amid a rise in hospitalizations as well.
