Classes at Orange County Schools will be held online on Thursday as the remnants of Hurricane Zeta are expected to impact the Triangle area, according to a report by WRAL.
In addition, no meals will be distributed at offsite locations. The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles is recommending “that no high vehicles operate, including school buses” as the Triangle braces for the potential for wind gusts up to 45 mph.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools is canceling athletic workouts for Thursday as well. Chapel Hill YMCA Learning Centers are open.
Hurricane Zeta slammed into the Gulf Coast on Wednesday, killing at least one person. The storm had sustained winds of 110 mph as a Category 2 hurricane at landfall and was the 27th named storm of the hurricane season.
Heavy rain and winds are expected in the Triangle area throughout the day on Thursday.
Orange County Schools welcomed back self-contained Exceptional Children students and preschool students for in-person learning on Tuesday. All remaining grades will return to their various campuses at the start of the second semester in late January and teachers will return to classrooms by mid-November.
Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, the other district in Orange County besides OCS, approved a plan for fully remote learning to last through at least January 15, 2021.
