The Fourth of July weekend is here, and that means cookouts, pool time and fireworks. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, “on average, 250 people go to the emergency room every day with fireworks-related injuries in the month around the July 4th holiday.” Go ahead and get those sparklers ready but remember safety first. Here are a “four” tips to keep you and your family safe this weekend.
1. USE FIREWORKS OUTSIDE

Always use fireworks outside. Before you light any fireworks make sure you have a clear open space around you to prevent a fire or injury. Stay away from trees, buildings, and cars. Never point fireworks towards another person and make sure they are a good distance away to prevent any accidents from happening.
2. LEAVE YOUR PETS AT HOME

Pets are a part of the family, but it’s best to leave them at home while you enjoy the fireworks. The loud noise can scare your pets, and they may run off during a fireworks display. Keep your pets inside and in a closed off room, away from the noise.
3. NO BOOZE

Don’t mix alcohol with fireworks. Save your alcohol for after the show.
4. KEEP WATER CLOSE BY

Keep a bucket of water or water hose nearby, you never know when you may need it. Before placing used fireworks in a trash can to dispose of, pour water on them to prevent a fire.
