The Color the Hill 4K and fun run is kicking off its fifth year of blitzing runners with cornstarch powder as they complete the course.

Color the Hill is open to anyone from kids to the elderly and there is no time limit on completion.

Funds from this year’s CTH will benefit the Be Loud! Sophie Foundation, the Academy of Information Technology for CHCCS and the SKJAJA Fund.

Jill Daly is the co-president of the SKJAJA Club at East Chapel Hill High School. The fund helps children in lower income homes participate in extracurricular activities, but also encourages these children to give back in some way.

The SKJAJA Club at East helps raise money for the activities, and is also helping with Color the Hill. Daly said every year, it’s a fun event.

“You just wear all white, I’ve seen all the Instagram pictures and it looks really fun,” she said. “You don’t have to run. You can walk or skip, as it says. You can run backwards, if you please. And people just throw color at you. And it’s a really cool kind of run that most people probably haven’t done before.”

It costs $38 to enroll and race for all age 11 and over. For kids between five and 11, registration costs $18 with a paying adult.  Daly said the price goes up Friday.

“You get a t-shirt, color packet, sunglasses and your race bib,” she said. “The price goes up on Friday, but it’s Saturday morning so you should go ahead and sign up, and sign up with SKJAJA, and the money you’re paying will help go towards it and help kids do all these extracurricular activities.”

Jessie Kim is the secretary of the SKJAJA Club at Chapel Hill High School. She said you never know who you’ll see on the course come race day.

“You see your teachers there,” she said. “You see people in the community. And you just get to hang out with your friends and run this race and you know that if you sign up through SKJAJA or the Be Loud! Sophie Foundation that you’re profiting a good organization.”

The race is on Saturday at 9:30. Parking will be available with a free shuttle at the Dean Dome. Register to participate here.
