Move Loot co-founders Bill Bobbitt and Shruti Shah found out they had been named to the Forbes 30 under 30 list for eCommerce in a rather fitting manner, from Google.
“The morning the article came out I had a Google alert for Move Loot on my phone,” Shah said. “I immediately texted my co-founders so that’s how we found out.”
Move Loot is an online marketplace that lets users buy and sell furniture.
“We are unique because we’re a full service marketplace,” she said. “We will actually come to your house and pick up your stuff and sell it for you, which is a little different from other services out there.”
The company is nearly two years old and has already expanded across the country from the Triangle to Los Angeles.
Shah is a 2011 graduate from UNC and said she and her cofounder like to keep their Carolina roots.
“I still have a number of professors that are mentors to me that were wonderful professors in college who have really been a huge part of supporting me as we build Move Loot and I think Bill would say the same,” she said. “I think it’s really cool that a few years after we graduated we’re still in touch with the university in that way.”
Shah said the company is also in touch with the university because they have gotten a chance to hire UNC alumni.
According to their website, the company moved 605 tons worth of furniture in 2014, but Shah says they are still looking to grow.
“There’s a lot we have to do to live up to that,” she said. “I think if you talk to any of us, we feel very much like everything we’re doing is still a work in progress and a lot of work still needs to be done.”
