The process of seeking out women who are tapped into their creativity, learning about their peronal journeys, and then taking a moment out of a busy week to share these discoveries with you is deeply fulfilling.  This week, though, I want to find out about a different artist: YOU.

Now, I know this blog showcases artists of the female ilk, but I’d like to hear from all readers (here on Chapelboro, on Facebook, wherever you find yourself reading this…). Take a moment to consider these questions. Only you know the answers, but if you answer them in the comments section, perhaps you’ll inspire a fellow reader in her/his creative journey (inspiring others is a form of creativity in its own right).

What do I create?

What artistic endeavor am I most afraid/in awe of?

What action could I take to bring me one step closer to trying that which scares me the most?

I can hear some of you from here. “I’m not an artist.” “I don’t create anything.” “If it scares me, why would I want to do it?” “I don’t have an artistic bone in my body.”

Poppycock.  Answer the questions anyway. Prove me wrong in my assertion that ALL of us, each and every one, are creative and artistic. Improv guru Del Close admonished us to “Follow the fear.” Why? Because that’s where the pot of gold rests: on the other side of the mental dragons we conjure to keep us safely in our comfort zones.

I promise, though, that you can’t prove me wrong on this; as my 11 year old son is fond of saying, often and loudly, “You’re stubborn, Mom. Totally stubborn!”
 
I’ll take it! A certain amount of stubbornness is necessary to slay the dragons that threaten to devour us whole, creativity and all.
