Olympic Pride, American Prejudice is a documentary that tells the story of 18 African American Olympians who won medals at the infamous 1936 Berlin Olympics.  The film follows 16 men and 2 women who were treated like second class citizens in their own country and who were competing in Adolf Hitler’s Germany.

Chapel Hill based Executive Producer Dr. Amy Tiemann with Ralph Metcalfe’s grandson, Nasser Metcalfe and his fiancee Farrah Boule at a screening for the 1936 athletes’ families in the National Portrait Gallery.

Chapel Hill’s Dr. Amy Tiemann is an executive producer of the documentary.  It is directed by Deborah Riley Draper.  Tiemann and Draper are in Washington D.C., along with families of the athletes featured in the film.

On Thursday, the athletes featured in the film were recognized at the White House.  Their families were able to with an honor the athletes themselves never experienced.  The athletes from the 1936 Olympics were honored along with 2016 Olympians.

Following the White House ceremony, a special screening of Olympic Pride, American Prejudice was held at the National Portrait Gallery where each family was recognized individually.
