After weeks of reports and rumors, the Charlotte Hornets made the move Sunday evening to hire UNC grad Mitch Kupchak as their new team president and general manager.

Kupchak–who was a standout as a player for the Tar Heels in the mid 70’s–previously helped guide the Los Angeles Lakers to four NBA championships during his 17-year tenure.

The Lakers fired Kupchak last season, and he has since been one of the top names on the market for another NBA front office position.

Hornets’ owner Michael Jordan fired previous general manager Rich Cho back in February and has been linked to Kupchak ever since.
