This week is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

It is well-timed ahead of the TEDxUNC conference this weekend that is focusing on the human body.

Advocates are working to spread the word about the prevalence of different eating disorders in hopes that others will come forward and receive treatment.

Stephanie Zerwas is a clinical psychologist and an assistant professor of psychiatry at Carolina, along with being the clinical director of the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders. Zerwas spoke about what she hopes comes from raising awareness with WCHL’s Blake Hodge.

Zerwas will also be speaking at the TEDxUNC conference on Saturday and shared what her presentation will focus on.

Zerwas is scheduled to speak at one o’clock during the conference, which is scheduled to run from noon until six on Saturday at Memorial Hall on the UNC campus.
