Every Tuesday morning, WCHL airs a segment called Adopt-A-Pet.

Adopt-A-Pet

Ron Stutts with Toby

We feature an animal looking for a home from local adoption agencies like Independent Animal RescueOrange County Animal Services, and Paws4Ever.

This week, Ron Stutts featured a cat named Toby.

Toby is not up for adoption, he is an Adopt-A-Pet success story.

We featured Toby (then known as Marlo) back in June.  We learned that the tabby is blind.

Carla Shuford heard the segment got in touch with her friend, Charlene Hayes.

Charlene has cared for blind cats her entire life.  At the time, she was preparing to spend six months in Mexico.  So, she adopted Toby and immediately went down to Mexico.

They have returned.

Toby now works at Charles House as a therapy cat.  As a cat trained to walk on a leash, he is particularly unique.

Over 100 unpaid volunteers work for Independent Animal Rescue.

From their website animalrescue.net:

Our mission is to rescue and provide safe and responsible care for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals. We shall strive to help all animals in need through our service programs. We will serve our communities through promotion of spay or neuter for all companion animals, and the education of children and adults in the humane care, respect and responsibility for animals on this earth.

This Friday, Independent Animal Rescue will host an event called “Black Cat Friday” at Petco in South Square.  Visit them from 2-4 PM.
