The discovery portion of the case against the man accused of shooting three Muslim college students last February is continuing, state prosecutors said on Friday.

James Dornfried with the Durham District Attorney’s Office told Superior Court Judge Orlando Hudson that the discovery process is moving forward after some issues with a computer hard drive.

Craig Stephen Hicks has been in custody since the night of the shooting last year when the 46-year-old allegedly shot and killed 23-year-old Deah Barakat, Barakat’s 21-year-old wife Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha and her sister 19-year-old Razah Mohamma Abu-Salha. The shooting took place in the Finley Forest condominium complex in the portion of Chapel Hill located in Durham County.

Police initially said an ongoing parking dispute appeared to be the motive for the shooting, but the victim’s families have maintained that it was a hate crime.

The case was pushed until June, when lawyers are scheduled to discuss the pretrial case management.

The state is seeking the death penalty in this case.

There is no word yet on when a trial could take place.

The families and friends of the victims have been working to honor the lives of those killed, dubbed ‘Our Three Winners,’ through service projects and giving back to the community.
