Welcome to Woman Crush Wednesday!

This week, join 97.9 The Hill’s Ali Evans for a conversation with Emily Ragland, Founder of CommuniTEAM, LLC.

Ragland founded CommuniTEAM based on the belief that all children deserve an opportunity to develop in a healthy environment. CommuniTEAM facilitates professionals and families, ensuring school aged youth with unique needs are set up for success.

Emily shared her goal right now is to focus on “supporting students, kindergarten through 12th, in addressing and understanding their emotions, their behaviors, and how that has come from results of trauma.” Ali and Emily also discuss is the perception of “trauma” as one incident, but as Emily says, “it can be ongoing… something like COVID and being isolated, not going into school settings, that’s traumatic for students.”

CommuniTEAM serves as an educator, helping teachers learn new ways to identify when students are struggling, and how to help them once they do. You may have seen viral videos of teachers offering students a choice of a high five, handshake, hug, dance party, etc. Ali shared that while this is a fun way to start the day, this is actually a mental health check for kids. Ali pointed out these activities can point out changes in behavior for kids, “especially if you have a little kid who most days chooses the dance party. And then all of a sudden they choose the handshake.”

Check out CommuniTEAM’s website, and be sure to visit their Instagram page – it’s a great resource for teachers and parents.

Listen below for the full conversation between Ali and Emily below, an extended version from what aired on 97.9 The Hill, and tune in next Wednesday for the next WCW introduction to another amazing woman in our community!
