Today is Wednesday, April 20, 2016. China’s worried about western spies. There’s a found message in a bottle. We learn about the first Americans.
Western Spies
China is worried about western spies. Female government workers in China have been ordered to not to talk to “handsome and romantic” people from the West. It’s called the “Dangerous Love” campaign. The Chinese government released cartoon-style pictures as a part of the campaign.
According to an AP report, the cartoon is posted on government bulletin boards.
Message in a Bottle
The world’s oldest message in a bottle has been discovered. The bottle washed onto the German island of Amrum on the North Sea coast in April 2015. It was thrown into the North Sea in 1906.
“I think having this postcard in your hand that has been floating around the sea for such a long time is amazing. It is a really nice link with the past, to a time when the Marine Biological Association was establishing itself and marine biology was increasing in importance,” Guy Baker, from the Marine Biological Association, tells Newsweek.
Migration to the Americas
The first people in the Americas were likely descendants of the modern humans who originated in Africa and were part of the global dispersal of modern humans around the world,
The findings are in article in the Evolutionary Anthropology journal. Dennis O’Rourke, a KU Distinguished Foundation Professor in Anthropology explains:
“We have always assumed that the initial peopling of the Western Hemisphere was a single, unique and independent event. By seeing it as part of a larger global process, everything we learn about other dispersals into geographic areas out of Africa within the last 50,000 years or so are relevant to our understanding of the American case.”
Earlier studies have suggested the migration to the Western Hemisphere occurred independently from the global movement.
