Looks like the President won’t be watching many games these days.

One NBA player said it best after Donald Trump raged at teams kneeling during the National Anthem along the Black Lives Matter sideline to support the fight against racial and social injustice. POTUS called the peaceful protest “disgraceful” and reiterated that he will turn off any game when he sees even one player kneeling.

Maybe Trump doesn’t want to take the credit with his narcissistic notion that he’s done more for African-Americans than any president except, perhaps, Abraham Lincoln, he of the Emancipation Proclamation. Trump left out Lyndon Johnson who signed the Civil Rights Act in 1964.

The player, a member of the New Orleans Pelicans, said he doesn’t think “anybody in the NBA cares if President Trump watches basketball.” Football is the Trumpster’s favorite sport, and when the NFL players roll out their new pre-game rituals, the Prez may have to tune into a satellite feed of Russian soccer.

How many times do people have to tell the orange Oval Office occupant that peaceful protest is a right granted by the Constitution, not him? And what will it take for the anti-immigration goons in the White House to figure out that he’s hurting his chances for re-election by offending some of the biggest role models in the country?

Of course, it’s not unusual for Trump to deviate from whatever policies his own administration rolls out, such as last month’s statement welcoming the long-awaited return of sports, with no conditions attached. It didn’t say the President can’t wait to change channels from Fox News to ESPN, as long all the athletes stand at attention during the Star-Spangled Banner.

Trump, at least, is nothing if not consistent. He has been a polarizing presence in the sports world for many years, but of course he wasn’t the POTUS then. Does he even know that POTUS is an acronym for President of the United States, which means all people of this country, not excluding those whom he tells to get the hell out when they commit an act within their rights but one that he hates personally?

Happy viewing, Donald J.
