This Friday, the Hillsborough Gallery of Arts is having the grand opening of their new showcase, Through Our Eyes. The gallery includes silver, hand-made jewelry by Arianna Bara, watercoloring paintings by Ryann Carey, and hand-made furniture and wood paneling by Ian Hardell. The opening reception is Friday during Hillsborough’s Last Friday Art Walk. The gallery will be on display until June 25th. For more information, click here.

The 9th annual Freight Train Blues concert series starts this weekend in Carrboro. The concert series celebrates the life and legacy of blueswoman Elizabeth “Libba” Cotten. This week’s lineup will include The Blue Ridge Opry, a country music variety show, and will feature a number of artists. Click here for more information.

The Animal Protection Society of Durham will have their annual Walk for the Animals this Saturday on Duke’s East Campus. The walk will be a 1.5 mile walk to help raise money and awareness for homeless and neglected pets throughout our community. All proceeds raised will go to APS of Durham. Mark Hewitt Pottery will be having a Kiln Opening at their studio in Pittsboro. Over 1500 pots have been fired for you to view this weekend. You’ll get the chance to also tour the barn showroom, the kiln, the workshop, and more. After you’ve toured the facility, you can shop for beautiful mugs, plates, bowls, tumblers, and more. This Saturday, the Greater Durham Moose Lodge will be holding an Appreciation Luncheon for First Responders, sponsored by SHEETZ. Binkley Baptist Church will be holding their monthly Black Lives Matter Vigil. Join members of our community to remember and honor victims of police brutality. Saturday, May 27 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

Come back out Lanza’s Cafe Saturday evening to hear Dean Batten perform. Dean will be performing new songs in the folk, folk rock, country rock sounds he first embraced in his childhood. Check out some live music this weekend at the Five Oaks Club House in Durham. Honky-tonk country band Blue Cactus will be playing. Opening for them will be Americana artist Job Riccio, showcasing her blend of old country with modern sounds. Click here to get your tickets.

Sunday, May 28 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Drop a line at West Point Mill this weekend. They’ll have cane fishing poles for you to check out for the afternoon while you step away from the hustle bustle at West Point on the Eno. Enjoy nature and some old-fashioned fishing this weekend. Lanza’s will have more live music for you to enjoy this weekend. Grab a coffee and sit back and enjoy a jazz performance from Joseph Silvers and Hunter MacDermut. Joseph and Hunter will be back at Lanza’s every last Sunday of the month so if you miss this one or you just want more of their jazz music, you’ve got plenty more opportunities. Come out Sunday and enjoy some delicious seafood and drinks, alcoholic or non, at Dingo Dog Brewing. Food will be provided by Bull City Eatery. Bring your pets and sit out on the patio, enjoying the beautiful weather and delicious food and drink. Click here for more information. 

A few hours after the Bull City Eatery, folk punk band Charming Disaster will play. While you enjoy their set, you can enjoy dinner from Cousins Maine Lobster food truck.
