The 9th annual Freight Train Blues concert series starts this weekend in Carrboro. The concert series celebrates the life and legacy of blueswoman Elizabeth “Libba” Cotten. Chelsea Theater’s “Chelsea Classics” series continues this weekend. The 28 film selection includes independent films, international favorites, underseen Hollywood classics, and more. Come out to Kidzu this weekend for Rainbow Story Time. All families are invited to enjoy the readings of diverse children’s books and take part in arts and crafts that are in support of Pride Month. The event is free and open to everyone, hosted in Kidzu’s Garden. Click here for more information.

Come out and gather with members of our community for Binkley Baptist Church’s Black Lives Matter vigil. Gather together to honor and remember the victims of police brutality. There will not be a speaker and it is not a protest. The vigil is for our community to stand together for justice. For more information, click here.

This weekend, Independent Animal Rescue is holding a Dog Adoption Event. They will be at Sunny Acres pet resort with some wonderful adorable dogs of all ages for you to meet. If you’re looking for a new best friend, find them this weekend. Click here for more information.

The Piedmont Wildlife Center will be holding a Summer Solstice Celebration. For the first time since 2020, they will be opening the door of their cabin so guests can visit their mammal ambassador animals. Yonder and the Orange County Historical Society will be holding a Drink Like A Regulator Day. Enjoy three themed cocktails from the time of the regulators while your host for the evening, Eryk Pruitt, one of the hosts of 97.9 The Hill’s Howdy Hillsborough, shares facts about alcohol consumption in the 1770’s. Paws4Ever and the Burlington Sock Puppets have partnered together for a fun night in support of pets. Proceeds of all tickets purchased through their link will go to Paws4Ever and aid them to continue helping animals in need in our community. Chapel Hill will be having their own bazaar this weekend. Everything you love about the Carrboro bazaar will be happening in Chapel Hill this weekend. Local makers will be on-hand selling their handmade crafts and creations and once you’re done shopping, stop into a neighboring restaurant or bar for food and drinks. Check out some live music this weekend when the School of Rock plays The MOD in Pittsboro for the first time ever. The mid-season preview show will feature sets ‘Best of Pop-Punk,’ Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors, Motley Crue vs. Def Leppard, and more. The show is free, but donations are very appreciated.
