This Friday, the Chapel Hill Public Library will be holding their Friends of the Library Big Book Sale. Thousands of books and puzzles will be available at a great price. Friday is the members only sale from 3-6, but you can join at the door. For more information, click here.

Fridays on the Front Porch continues at The Carolina Inn this weekend. Sip on some cocktails or North Carolina beer and enjoy some food from a food truck, while taking in a different artist each week. While you’re enjoying the music, you can enjoy Carolina Inn’s specially made Centennial lager in celebration of their 100 years of service. The new exhibit, From The Mind’s Eye, has opened at Hillsborough Gallery of Arts. On display are oil paintings by Chris Graebner, landscape paintings by Marcy Lansman, and blown glass by Pringle Teetor. The opening reception is this Friday as part of Hillsborough’s Last Friday Art Walk. For more information, click here.

Come out to University Place and get some fresh produce from the Chapel Hill Farmers’ Market. Stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables while also shopping for breads, muffins, crafts, and more! You can find the market in front of Stoney River and Silverspot. For more information, click here.

The North Carolina Boys Choir and North Carolina Girls Choir will be holding a free kids choir workshop. No prior singing background is required. Ages 7 – 14 are welcome. Click here for more information.

The North Carolina Black Alliance, the Hannah Ruth Foundation, and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP Youth Council will be holding a Wellness Health Fair at the Hargraves Center this Saturday. Health screenings and resources will be available, as well as food trucks and fun activities for the family. There will also be a discussion on how local leaders in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area are advancing health equity in our community. For more information, click here.

If you’re searching for your new best friend, now is the perfect time to get them! Orange County Animal Services is holding a clear the shelter event this Saturday. All adoption fees are waived during the event and no appointment is required. If you can’t wait until Saturday to find your new best friend, come into the shelter earlier; all throughout the month of August, adoption fees are reduced. Click here for more information.

This Saturday, Binkley Baptist Church will be holding their monthly Black Lives Matter Vigil. It is not a protest, it is a chance for our community to stand together in remembrance and to honor the victims of police brutality. For more information, click here.

Playmakers Repertory Company is opening their doors and inviting the public to come backstage. Get a sneak peak into their upcoming season of productions. Food trucks will be available as well as live music and fun activities for the whole family. Click here for more information.

This year, 97.9 The Hill WCHL and Chapel Hill Tire turned 70 years old! To say thank you for your support, we will be holding the Tires and Tunes: 70th Birthday Bash! A Chapel Hill Celebration at Midway. Food and beverages from IP3, The Baxter, Al’s Burger Shack, Lapin Bleu, Beer Study, and Local 506 will be available. Car washes from Chapel Hill will be offered and show cars will be on display. There will be a Midway Market and some businesses along Midway will offer special in-store activities and offers. Chelsea Theater is hosting film historian and professor at NC State, Marsha Gordon, to discuss her new book. Becoming the Ex-Wife studies novelist and filmmaker Ursula Parrott, whose work featured stories of divorcees, career women, single mothers, etc. After discussing her book, Professor Gordon will introduce a showing of Parrott’s Next Time We Love.
