The Hillsborough Stormwater and Environmental Services Division will host a volunteer workday from 9:00am to noon on Saturday, June 2.

Volunteers are asked to gather at the Adron F. Thompson Water/Sewer Facility to remove nonnative, invasive plant species by hand from a forested area along the Eno River. Because parking is limited outside of the facility’s fenced area, the town staff will escort volunteers to the work site.

Clothes suitable for working outside and in the woods are required, as well as closed-toe shoes. Water, work gloves, sunscreen and bug repellent are recommended and are available at the site.

The work is part of a larger project to restore riparian habitat with the floodplain on this town-owned property. This project is a partnership between Piedmont Conversation Council and the town. The council received a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant to assist the town in demolishing two old buildings and a portion of a parking area currently used by the town’s Public Works Department. The project will not only restore and enhance habitat along the Eno River, it will reduce storm water runoff pollution and improve the river’s water quality.
