UNC head coach Larry Fedora took center stage at the annual ACC Kickoff event, proclaiming that the game of football was “under attack.”

“Oh yes, I fear that the game will get pushed so far to one extreme that you won’t recognize the game 10 years from now,” Fedora said. “That’s what I worry about. And I do believe if it gets to that point, that our country goes down, too.”

Is the game of football under attack? Is Larry Fedora the right man to save the country?

You can find out this summer, when the hit blockbuster Saving Football arrives in theaters.

While many in the media took a more serious approach to Fedora’s comments, Sports Illustrated writer Charlotte Wilder decided on a different angle.

Her latest article, titled “Larry Fedora Is Here to Save Football, and Maybe America,” turns Fedora’s quotes into a full-blown screenplay in which Fedora, played by Nicholas Cage, works with the American government to save football from an alien race known as the Softonians.

The movie features an ensemble cast, with notable actors like Cage, Meryl Streep, Jamie Foxx and Chris Hemsworth in major roles. Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy, who employed Fedora at Oklahoma State, makes an appearance as well.

Here is an excerpt:

It’s the fourth quarter of the first home game. UNC is playing the University of Central Florida. FEDORA stands on the sidelines surrounded by assistant coaches, yelling into his headset. FEDORA’s right hand man and OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR MIKE GARGOYLE, played by Jamie Foxx, stands next to him. FEDORA takes his headset off, throws it to the ground, and marches up to DEFENSIVE END MARK WOODWIN, played by Chris Hemsworth, who’s walking off the field.

FEDORA: Woodwin! Off the goddamn phone! How many times do I have to tell you Millennials to get your heads in the game? What the hell are you doing on that thing, FaceMashing?

This is a spoiler-free review of the movie, so read it for yourself to find out how Fedora saves football and America.
