Adopt a Working Cat Today!
Would you like to make a HUGE difference in the life of a fabulous feline that prefers to live more independently? We hope so! Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) needs to find homes for cats that are part of their Working Barn Cat initiative.
These cats are not social enough to be safely handled or petted like most house cats, so they can’t be adopted through the regular adoption program. Therefore, they are part of a group that is most vulnerable in a shelter environment. However, these cats would likely make great working cats if you have a barn, stable, workshop, or any other structure that could use hard-working felines. Adopting these cats as working cats is part of an effort to promote a humane and compassionate community for all animals. They can thrive and be happy cats in a situation that lets them live on their own terms. OCAS wants all of these cats to have a second chance at a nice life.
Adopting a working cat may also be an effective and non-toxic method of controlling the rodent population in a structure or area while providing a safe home for a cat that is not social enough to be adopted to an indoor household. Compared to other methods that are commonly used to control rodents, this method proves to be environmentally friendly. It is a win-win situation for the cats and the environment!
Working cats will be sterilized and fully vaccinated before going to their new homes. Their adoption fees have been waived. They will also come with general care instructions and recommendations for helping them to adapt to their new space on an adopter’s property. If you are interested in adopting a working cat, please visit www.orangecountync.gov/2820/Working-Barn-Cats or call the OCAS adoption desk at 919-942-7387, menu option 3.
