Carrboro residents! The town wants your feedback on the future of 203 S. Greensboro Street, the proposed new site for a library, the ArtsCenter, town offices and more. Head to Town Hall on Wednesday, June 13 from 5-8 pm – get information, meet the designers, and take part in the conversation.


Saturday, June 23, head to the Chatham Community Library in Pittsboro from 11-3 for a celebration of Juneteenth – with food, live music, storytelling, and speeches by elected officials and historians of the black experience during the Civil War and Reconstruction.


Beginning Monday, June 11, work crews will close a portion of S. Greensboro Street in Carrboro, just south of downtown, to build a roundabout at the site of the future South Green development. Saturday, June 23, DHIC is holding a dedication celebration to mark the opening of Greenfield Place, their new affordable-housing development in Chapel Hill. Come out from 10:30-1:30 to the development at 150 Formosa Lane; there will be food and family activities.


Sunday, July 1, head to the River Park Farmers Market Pavilion in downtown Hillsborough from 11-3 for the annual “Picnic in the Park”! Live Americana music from the Music Makers Relief Foundation, plus food trucks, family games, and more. VisitHillsboroughNC.com for more.


July 4 is almost upon us! Festivities begin in Carrboro at the Weaver Street lawn at 9:30 am; at 10:50 the People’s Parade goes down Weaver Street to Town Hall, followed by family fun at Town Commons throughout the day. And of course the day wraps up with Chapel Hill’s big fireworks show at Kenan Stadium… the fireworks go off at 9:30, but the gates open at 7:00 with live music and more. Friday, June 15, head to the Southern Village Green for the NC Symphony Orchestra’s annual free concert! Beginning at 7:30 pm, but come early to grab a good spot. SouthernVillage.com for more info.

Sunday, July 8, head to the Cedar Grove Blueberry Farm on Persimmon Hill Lane for the 4th annual “Pick-A-Ton” fundraiser! Blueberry picking begins at 7 am; there will be a pig-pickin’ starting at noon and running till 7 pm, plus wine and cider tastings from Botanist and Barrel. Proceeds will benefit TABLE.


Saturday, September 29, head to Blackwood Farm Park in Hillsborough for the Orange County Localfest! 10am to 7pm, spotlighting local food, local art, live local music and more. Free admission! Get more info online at OrangeCountyLocalFest.com.


As part of its July 4 celebration, the town of Carrboro is holding its fifth annual community reading of Frederick Douglass’ famed antislavery speech “The Meaning of July Fourth for the Negro.” Everyone’s invited to the Century Center from noon to 1:30 for the reading; UNC professor William Sturkey will deliver opening remarks.
