Today is Friday, September 23, 2016.  Meet the Ig Nobel winners.  NASA isn’t changing your horoscope.  Stephen Hawking says don’t talk to aliens.

Ig Nobel Winners

The Ig Nobel prizes are spoof awards given by Harvard University every year.  The goal is to honor research that makes you first laugh and then think

The 2016 Ig Nobel prizes were handed out on Thursday night.  Winners included an Egyptian doctor who put pants on rats to study their sex lives and a British researcher who lived like an animal.

NASA Didn’t Change Your Horoscope

For some reason, a bunch of people thought that NASA recently changed their horoscope signs.  The story was reported by Cosmopolitan.

Of course, that is utter nonsense.  In a Tumblr post, NASA explained what it does.  They study astronomy.  They do not study astrology.  Those are different things.

Stephen Hawking Says Don’t Talk to Aliens

Stephen Hawking is interested in studying the existence of aliens.  He thinks we should be wary of communicating with them, especially if it is clear that they are more technologically advanced.

In a new program called Stephen Hawking’s Favorite Places, the theoretical physicist said, “If intelligent life has evolved there we should be able to hear it,” he says “One day we might receive a signal from a planet like this, but we should be wary of answering back. Meeting an advanced civilization could be like Native Americans encountering Columbus. That didn’t turn out so well.”
