As grateful as I am to be joining you again for the November edition of Miles to Go, I can’t believe Thanksgiving is here! Typically we rotate which side of the family we will visit each year, but this year we decided to stay home for Thanksgiving because we are traveling the first week of December. The decision to stay home was an easy one that I will be thankful for as we prepare to travel, but as I began to chat with my side of the family in our group chat, the FOMO (fear of missing out) started to kick in. I wanted to be closer to my family and it made me sad that I can’t be this year – after all, ‘family’ tops my list for things to be grateful for.

Missing out on Thanksgiving with my extended family makes me feel even more thankful for my husband and son. When I feel like I am missing my family dearly, I look at Terrance and Miles and it takes that yearning away.

Focusing on what I have rather than being sad over what I’ll miss reminded me how important it is that we keep a healthy balance and routinely point out the good things all around us. With that in mind, Miles and I created a list of things that we are thankful for, and I wanted to share that list with you:

1.       Waking up every morning

2.       Our dog, Oakley

3.       Food to eat

4.       Nintendo Switch

5.       Books

6.       White Chocolate Reese’s

7.       Alone time

8.       Parents to chat with

9.       Friends

10.   Family

Now, if you are like me and you are missing your family this holiday season, I suggest making your own list of things you are thankful for. A fun project could even be to put them on paper together as a family, and put them up in the kitchen as you prepare food, or around the table where you enjoy your Thanksgiving meal. Making this list, and hearing what Miles is grateful for, has helped me so much.

How are you spending your time this season?
