The Midway District of Chapel Hill includes a few well-known community staples. The Baxter has been the reigning bar/arcade champion in Chapel Hill for three years running, Al’s Burger Shack is consistently recognized as one of the better burgers in town, and both Belltree and Beer Study are perfect places for a drink and quality time. These neighborhood businesses are banding together to host a fundraiser for those currently in need in Puerto Rico this Sunday, October 8.
From 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, Al’s will be serving up a Puerto Rican feast – complete with smoked chicken, roasted pork with mojo sauce, tostones, and more – for $10 a plate. All proceeds will be donated to United For Puerto Rico, an organization started by the First Lady of Puerto Rico to directly help those most affected and in need in the wake of recent devastation. There will also be live music, courtesy of Liquid Pleasure, The Grateful Dads, and the Pete Joyner Quartet.
The event itself is free, but all the Midway businesses will be raising funds for United for Puerto Rico. The Baxter and Belltree Speakeasy will be featuring Puerto Rican rum drink specials, $1 from every pint served at Beer Study during its Founder’s Brewing Co. tap takeover will be donated. There will also be donation jars at each business for folks to donate on their own.
