Welcome to “Making a Splash” with Goldfish Swim School of Chapel Hill!

Every month on 97.9 The Hill, Brighton McConnell is joined by a member of the Goldfish team for a conversation about building confidence in kids, in and out of the pool. You can listen to the full segment above as, this month, Brighton has a conversation with Megan Sweeten, general manager of Goldfish Swim School in Chapel Hill about five swim-focused and water safety myths! Here’s what they discussed, in convenient bullet point form:

  • Myth #1: I’ll know if someone is drowning because they’ll flail their arms and yell for help.
  • Myth #2: I only need to worry about water safety when my family is at the pool or beach.
  • Myth #3: As long as there’s a lifeguard on duty, my child will be safe.
  • Myth #4: Floaties, rafts, and inflatable pool toys will keep kids safe.
  • Myth #5: Since we’re swimming so often for fun during the summer, we can pause lessons.

Listen to the full conversation above for some helpful discussion about why each of these myths aren’t exactly true from an expert, for guidance on how to stay safe and have fun around water with kids of all ages and a couple pointers on how exactly Goldfish can help kids learn a life-saving and lifelong skill!
