Local nonprofit SKJAJA — known for providing scholarships for extracurricular activities, and meaningful service opportunities for Chapel Hill-Carrboro area students grades K-12 — recently introduced Karen Kalafatas as its new executive director.
“I’m happy to announce SKJAJA has found its new director, Karen Kalafatas,” said Charlotte White, a founder of SKJAJA. “She has 20 plus years experience in nonprofit development, programs and communications and we are so excited to have her join the SKJAJA family.”
Kalafatas is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, and her years of nonprofit experience include time in Boston and Harvard, leading efforts to serve kids and their families through music and art. In coming home to North Carolina, Kalafatas looks forward to continuing that service in a new organization, and new community, as part of SKJAJA.
“We are an organization that’s committed to building community,” said Kalafatas. “If you’re someone looking for volunteer opportunities or give back opportunities — even with your kids, if you have kids or young people in your life, please do reach out — go to our website and reach out. We have lots of service days planned for the spring and partnership with schools and organizations around town, and lots of other opportunity where you can get involved and we can work together to build a stronger Chapel Hill-Carrboro.”
