Violet Bell (Lizzy Ross and Omar Ruiz-Lopez) joined Aaron on Live & Local this week to celebrate their newly-released second album “Shapeshifter.”

The duo’s first album in three years, “Shapeshifter” dropped in early October and it’s already won significant acclaim. The album’s centerpiece is a series of songs about the selkie, a mythical sea creature that can assume human form but faces jeopardy when it does. (Ross says the selkie myth is a timeless archetype, but it’s also especially trenchant today, in a world where bodily autonomy is threatened.)

Visit VioletBell.net for more information about the band and the album.

“Shapeshifter” is out now and Violet Bell is already touring to support it. They’ve just returned from a trip to New England; in January they’ll be heading to the British Isles; and this Friday, December 2, they’re playing an album-release show at Cats Cradle, with special guests Allison DeGroot and Tatiana Hargreaves along with other notable local musicians in support.

Violet Bell stopped by Live & Local on Tuesday to chat about “Shapeshifter” and play three songs: “Meet Me in the Garden,” “Fisherman’s Daughter,” and (Aaron’s favorite) “Junkie.”
