Fresh off the release of his debut solo album “Good For Nothing Howl,” Joseph Terrell joined Aaron this week for Live & Local.

Joseph Terrell has been a major figure in the Triangle music scene for well over a decade, as one of the founding members of Mipso – but “Good For Nothing Howl” is his first solo effort. The album dropped on May 5 – as it happens, just a week before Mipso bandmate Libby Rodenbough released her own solo album “Between the Blades.” (Notwithstanding all those solo efforts, Terrell says Mipso isn’t going anywhere: the band is collectively working on a new album too, due out later this year.)

Terrell is celebrating with an album release show this Saturday, May 20, at Pluck Farm on West 54 near Saxapahaw. He’ll perform at 7:00 p.m., part of an all-day party celebrating Steel String Brewery’s tenth anniversary.

Joseph Terrell stopped by Live & Local to discuss the album and the upcoming show. He also played three songs: “Cast Iron Kettle,” “Wondering,” and “Persimmon.”

Behind the scenes: Terrell’s visit happened to coincide with a gas line break that forced University Place to evacuate – so he and Aaron ended up recording outside in the mall’s parking lot. This led to some comic moments, including an impromptu Walgreens run and a brief interruption from an impromptu spectator.
