Longtime friends since high school, Jon Shain and FJ Ventre are both significant figures in the local music scene, producing and performing with a wide variety of area musicians and bands. Now, for the second time in three years, they’ve come together to make some terrific music of their own.
In 2018, Shain and Ventre released their first album as a duo – and now, they’re out with their second album, “Never Found A Way To Tame The Blues.”

Shain and Ventre say they’ve always been influenced by blues and classic rock. In 2019, Shain won an award at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, giving them even more opportunities to perform with other blues legends and explore their roots.
“Never Found A Way” features Shain and Ventre playing alongside a lineup of acclaimed singers and musicians, both local and global. Triangle-based country star Rissi Palmer provides guest vocals on the album’s lead song, “Keep Your Head Above The Water,” and Shain and Ventre’s band includes such notables as drummer Dave Mattacks, who’s performed with artists ranging from Jethro Tull to Paul McCartney.
Jon Shain and FJ Ventre stopped by 97.9 The Hill studios this week to chat with Aaron Keck and play three songs off “Never Found A Way To Tame The Blues.”
