Local musician Chessa Rich joined Aaron on Live & Local this week, ahead of the release of her debut album “Deeper Sleeper.”

Chessa Rich has been a fixture in the local music scene for a while, but “Deeper Sleeper” is her first full-length album. Recorded in the spring of 2021, the nine songs on “Deeper Sleeper” all revolve around sleeping and dreaming – something that’s fascinated and plagued Rich all her life. (She was diagnosed with sleep apnea after recording the album.)

The album drops Friday, April 7, but she’s already released three acclaimed singles – including “Sleeping Is Easier,” now in heavy rotation on 97.9 The Hill. (The theme also extends to distribution: fittingly, the album is being released on the Sleepy Cat label.)

A Burlington native, Rich has a pair of album release shows at the end of the month. The first is in Greensboro, on April 27, and then she’ll be at Cats Cradle Back Room Saturday, April 29, with Skylar Gudasz opening.

Chessa Rich stopped by Live & Local (along with Joseph Terrell) to discuss the album and play three songs: “Mary,” “Sleeping Is Easier,” and “Dirty Wine Glass.” Listen:
