Katharine Whalen and Austin Riopel of Certain Seas joined Aaron Keck on “Live & Local” this week to play a few songs from their new album, “A Simple Sampler of Small Delights.”
Whalen and Riopel form Certain Seas along with Danny Grewen, Danny Abrams, and Nate Stalfa – but that’s not the only band they have together. They also perform as Brandy Rambles, Swedish Wood Patrol, JugBand, and Jahfree Jones – different band names for different genres – and Whalen says “Small Delights” is a “sampler” of each of those different bands, compiled together on one album. They recorded it over two days in December at Whalen’s home in Efland, with the help of a grant from the Orange County Arts Commission.
The album’s available online now – and Certain Seas will be playing a show at the Cave in downtown Chapel Hill on Friday, February 25.
