Formed around open-mic nights at Chapel Hill’s Cave and Hillsborough’s Yonder – and named for a popular fishing lure – the Rattletraps have been quickly building an extensive following since they first emerged last year. They’ve also been building an extensive lineup: they’re now up to nine different members.
“It’s kind of like a snowball rolling downhill, just picking up speed and gathering people,” laughs lead vocalist Nick Parker. “It’s honestly more of an opt out situation: you (already) are a Rattletrap, you have to opt out.”

The Rattletraps opened 2026 in a big way with the New Year’s Day release of their debut EP “Natural Crawl” – and with “Cuff and Collar,” recorded at Carrboro’s Nightsound Studios, they’re ready to take their blues-roots rock sound to the next level.
“We knocked most of it out in a three-day span,” says Parker. “It was really fun.”

The new album is due out on Saturday, August 1, and the band will celebrate that evening with an album-release show at Cat’s Cradle Back Room, supported by Max Lane and Beeper.
