This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Verla Insko! She’s the longest-serving House Democrat currently in the chamber, and recently announced that she would not be seeking reelection after the conclusion of her current term — which ends in 2022.

A retired health care administrator, Insko has long been a progressive political champion for the Orange County area. She served as an Orange County Commissioner for four years and on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education for eight years before she was elected to the North Carolina General Assembly in 1997 and serving 13 terms through 24 years.
