This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Roger Callanan.
Callanan has spent the last 10 years volunteering for the Orange County Department on Aging, helping run a program called The Handy Helpers. The Handy Helpers volunteer to assist homeowners with home repairs, including building wheelchair ramps. Not only does Callanan help build those ramps and customize them to the needs of the owner, he is also running outreach to contact homeowners to see what their needs are and contacting the Handy Helper volunteers to set up a date for them to do the repairs with a quick turnaround. The Handy Helpers have done over a hundred home repairs over the years.

Roger was my neighbor for many years. I am not at all surprised to see this path he has taken to help so many in need.
