This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Jim Sander of the Wildflower Lane farm in Efland!
“About ten year ago, I realized that if I was going to get into farming, I needed to do it soon,” said Sander. “… The first seven [years] were for profit, and the last three have been nonprofit … we grow common, organic vegetables for TABLE and also for Farmer Food Share in Durham. Everything we grow, we give away.”
In the last three years, Wildflower Lane has grown and given away roughly a hundred thousand dollars of produce, all thanks to community involvement, investment and effort happening with Jim and his three-quarter acre of fertile land in Efland.
