This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is CJ Suitt!

Suitt, who was named Chapel Hill’s first ever Poet Laureate in 2019, is wrapping up his time in that position this year. A Chapel Hill native and a life-long poet, CJ Suitt cofounded the Sacrificial Poets while attending Chapel Hill High School, making him the perfect candidate to become the town’s first Poet Laureate when town councilmembers Allen Buansi and Rachel Schaevitz helped launch the program.

“CJ Suitt is one of a kind. He is an artist in the truest form. He’s been an artist since he was a teenager, and he’s carried on that tradition throughout his life,” said Buansi. “He’s as deep a person as you’ll meet. He’s just one of those people that, when he talks to you, he talks to you as if you’re the only person that’s there.”
