This week’s Hometown Heroes, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, are Bill Melega and Lyla Berman.

Bill Melega is a beloved history teacher at Chapel Hill High School and after three decades teaching, he is retiring this summer. To send him into retirement and to thank him for his passion and dedication for history and his students, current student Lyla Berman organized a GoFundMe to raise money for a new car for Melega. After just a few weeks, the GoFundMe is very close to its goal, speaking to the love Melega’s current and former students have for him.
