Theater students at Chapel Hill High School were recently treated to a guest lecture they won’t soon forget, as Tyler McKenzie took some time out of his busy schedule as part of the touring cast of “Hamilton” to teach a master class!

McKenzie attended high school in Monroe, North Carolina, and is a graduate of Western Carolina University. The last week in November, he came to CHHS to lead a workshop after being contacted by Alyssa Gillikin — former classmate at WCU and current chorus teacher at CHHS.

More than 75 students joined McKenzie for a master class covering the ins-and-outs of daily life as a performer, the finer points of dance and stage choreography and more. As one of the most consistently hot tickets in show business since its premiere in 2015, “Hamilton” has become a cultural phenomenon — and students at CHHS having the opportunity to learn directly from a cast member was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
