Welcome back to Glowing Review, presented by RosieGlow Skin Studio! I’m Ali Evans, and each month we will explore a different skin-care, health, wellness or beauty trend together. If you haven’t read about my previous experiences, check out the archives here.
This month, we’re talking Botox.
When I first started asking around about Botox, I had a hard time finding a friend who would openly discuss it. Mostly, I was met with people convincing me I didn’t need it. I’m sure their intentions were good, but their unwanted opinions didn’t answer my questions. For whatever reason, there is a stigma attached to Botox.
Since I started getting Botox at New Image MD, I’ll tell anyone who will listen about my experience. I think I’ve even put it on my Instagram story before. No shame.
Botox, short for Botulinum Toxin, is an injectable substance that temporarily relaxes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles in the forehead and around the eyes. It has other medical uses such as treating chronic migraines, helping with excessive sweating, or overactive bladder issues. I personally get treated with Botox to address the lines across my forehead, and in the space between my eyebrows. (I basically only make two faces – eyebrows raised and eyebrows lowered, both with an air of confusion.) This means I get multiple injections across the areas I want treated, with the whole process taking minutes.
Dr. Jennifer King, the owner of New Image MD, is a board certified physician. When I was searching for places to try Botox for the first time, Jennifer’s training and expertise are what stood out to me. Deciding to get any kind of injectable treatment is a big decision, and you should know that the person taking care of you is qualified and experienced. You should do as much research as you want, but I’m here to tell you – Dr. King is the real deal.
I know that everyone’s expectations with self-care investments are different. That is why I use the “Self-Care Scale” in each edition of Glowing Review, so you can choose what to try based on what matters the most to you.
Experience: Botox Injections at New Image MD
Relaxation Level: 2. I know, I know. We’re talking about needles going into your forehead. I’m still giving the whole experience some level of relaxation credit because of how beautiful, clean and quiet New Image MD is. It feels like a spa experience, even if you’re there for something other than a spa treatment.
Painful Meter: 8. I think this is the highest the painful meter has gone. (Y’all. It’s needles. Going into your face.) Dr. King did use a numbing cream the first time I was treated with Botox, so if you’re really concerned about the pain, ask her about the options.
External Results: 10. Not only does Botox reduce the wrinkles and lines in your face, but it also prevents new ones from forming or old ones from getting deeper. People might even ask if you had work done. Well, they’ll say you look ‘refreshed.’ I like to give a little wink when people say that to me.
It’s worth noting Botox is the most expensive treatment I’ve shared so far in Glowing Review. Like tattoos, your result is only as good as you pay for; Good Botox isn’t cheap, and cheap Botox isn’t good. I’m not saying give up on Groupon, but Botox is a medical treatment, and you want to be certain you’re in the right hands. I can’t recommend Dr. Jennifer King at New Image MD enough. You’ll feel safe and cared for, and next thing you know, you’ll be telling anyone and everyone to book an appointment there while you rant about the dumb stigma attached to Botox.
An important part of writing Glowing Review is that it remains rooted in self-care. Self-care looks different for everyone, and you are the only person who can decide what makes you feel good. I’ve personally shed whatever negativity is attached to getting Botox, and you should too if it’s something that would make you feel the way you want to feel about yourself.
