The Friends of the Eno River Farmers Market has received a grant through Carolina Farm Credit’s Corporate Mission Fund in order to assist with the program’s efforts to build a fenced-in nursery and expand the market’s “Double Market Bucks” program – which matches every dollar spent by a customer using an EBT/SNAP card at the farmer’s market.

This is the fourth year that Carolina Farm Credit has awarded Corporate Mission Fund grants, and last year $152,100 was awarded to 28 local organizations and 12 college students. These grants are intended to stimulate local agricultural economies and promote efforts in local agriculture, and are awarded based on information provided through applications by organizations and individuals alike.

The Eno River Farmers Market in Hillsborough is open every Saturday, and stocked with fresh produce and goods from vendors operating within 60 miles of Hillsborough for traditional foods and within the state of North Carolina for specialty offerings and seasonal produce. Visitors to the market can find farm-fresh fruits and vegetables alongside locally-raised meat and eggs, as well as artisan goods such as cheese from Chapel Hill Creamery and bread from Strong Arm Baking Co. The market also hosts live music, chef demonstrations, lessons from master gardeners and other opportunities for locals to learn more about — and take part in — their local food economy.
