Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 143
In this episode I meant to talk with you about dogs and horses, goats and pigs, but so enjoyed my dog stories I barely mentioned the other critters.
I have searched for any research into whether dog ownership has a positive impact on the creativity of the owner and haven’t found any.
However there is lots of research into the positive impact dog ownership, and pet ownership, has on our mental health.
Caring for a dog cares for you. Loving on Flicka or Bo quiets your mind. Stress and anxiety decreases. You think more holistically. Stroking their fur, massaging their muscles, all these behaviors bring us to ourselves and lead to a calm state of mindfulness.
I bet we’d agree that it’s a small step from these proven benefits to projected ones; that we are likely to be more creative when we are less stressed; that the more holistic view helps us find new relationships in the world and in our thinking about our world.
And owning a dog is fun, whether you are actively engaged in playing with Bandit or watching Ivy and Bella wrestle, and a playful mindset is ready for its most creative performances.

“Exploring Your Creative Genius” takes an expansive view on what it means to be creative and entrepreneurial in an ongoing conversation led by Carl Nordgren — entrepreneur, novelist, and lifelong student with decades of experience growing his own creative capacity and assisting others to do the same in exciting new ways!
