Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 100

Last week was the 100th episode of ‘Exploring your Creative Genius’ and the theme of the show was my eagerness to share love… my love for you, creative love, love of creativity, love of love.

I sang the song of love I wrote for Sarah Rose, Brita, and Krista, my three daughters, when they were children: ‘I got 3 girls, wish I had 7’.

I talked about how loving the barnyard animals in my care cared for me; calming them calmed me.

I didn’t share the research about love’s impact on Creative performance; there’s plenty of it and it’s conclusively positive. Most focused on Romantic Love — wow, when we are experiencing it our creative performance improves, often dramatically. I’ve had a powerful romantic love for my wife Marie for 43 years. Simply being reminded of the one you love romantically has immediate impact; hearing my wife talking in another room can result in another one line poem, such as ‘he sees her for the first time everyday.’

There’s less research on how taking a loving approach to the world and its inhabitants impacts Creativity, but it is clear in its conclusion; an openhearted, optimistic, friendly approach develops adaptive and resilient abilities and builds greater diversity in your networks of friends and acquaintances, offering new perspectives. In fact your peripheral vision widens, so you literally see more of the world you love.

And I hope I was clear about how much I love and respect the people who work here at WCHL. I started the show with a joke one of my grandchildren, Tilda, created. Last year she hung around the station’s offices with her sister Solvi one afternoon while I was recording a show. As we were walking to the car she said ‘They seemed more like a community than a business.”

I ended episode with another song, this one for The Hill.

There’s a radio station we all know

97 9 The Hill

For music news and sports it’s the place we go

97 9 The Hill

The folks who work here are really great

97 9 The Hill

No wonder they’re #1 in the Tar Heel state

97 9 The Hill

Serving their community is their purpose and pride

Their reputation really should be known worldwide

They’re pros so they never will be satisfied

They’re 97 9 The Hill
