A partnership between the General Consulate of Mexico in Raleigh and Durham Technical Community College has garnered $16,000 in scholarships for students of Mexican heritage.

Since 2015, the General Consulate has been partnered with Durham Tech in supporting the educational goals of students, and the scholarships funded through this grant are meant to help top-performing low-income students attend classes and achieve their career goals. The $16,000 will help cover tuition, books and fees in the 2019 academic year, and is matched dollar-for-dollar by institutional scholarship funds.

Durham Tech students can apply for the scholarship through the Durham Tech Foundation, and the program will be advertised and supported by the Center for the Global Learner – an organization with a long history of supporting English as a Second Language (ESL) and English for Academic Purposes (EFL) programs, along with Study Abroad initiatives, DACA students and students on visas.

“The General Consulate of Mexico has been a dedicated supporter of the College and our students,” said Dr. Constanza Gómez-Joines, Assistant Vice President and Executive Director of the Center for the Global Learner, in a press release. “Their commitment to our students and their success has provided life-changing opportunities to a vulnerable population of students. We are extremely grateful for their continued support.”
