As a Black woman at lunch recently with my five of my girlfriends I asked sarcastically, “Anybody here voting for Trump?” One responded with, “I’m voting for Trump.”

For me to respond with ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND would not have been an opportunity for meaningful dialogue, so I asked… WHY do you support Trump?
Her response was, “Because he’s GANGSTA. He tells it like it is, he is tough, and he is not establishment.”
Suddenly, I had flashbacks of seeing Black folks on television standing behind Trump and applauding him. It’s perplexing. Why will Blacks vote against their own values? Do they think Trump is our friend?
Have you notice he doesn’t call out some of his supporters for their blatant racism. Besides dragging his feet in disavowing David Duke and white supremacy as a whole, Trump has been pretty conspicuous about failing to call out some elements of his core supporters who are quite obviously racist.
To my brothers and sisters who think Donald Trump is their “gangsta” in shining armor, I say, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Study his past and try to find substance when he speaks. Otherwise, your children might be on the front line of war when Trump attacks “Tan-ZAN-ia.”
