Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 125
In our last show Beth Yerxa, founder and executive direction of Triangle Art Works, shared the important ways her organization helps artists commercialize their work — increasingly throughout the region.
Regular listeners to the show know I am a big fan of common wealth — shared resources that benefit each and all of us.
A great example of productive common wealth are professional organizations that offer training and advice. By pooling resources, they provide members with high-quality, affordable skill development — democratizing access to expertise that might otherwise be tough to access. Their networks foster collaborative problem-solving, turning isolated professionals into a collective brain trust. For industries, they raise standards, ensuring a more skilled, ethical workforce that benefits society. Mentorship programs bridge gaps between generations, preserving institutional knowledge while accelerating innovation.
These organizations also amplify advocacy power, uniting voices to shape policies that benefit entire sectors (e.g., licensing reforms, R&D funding). Ultimately, they transform competition into co-operation — where success isn’t zero-sum, but a rising tide lifting all boats.
